Chapter Retreat

April 23, 2010

This semester’s chapter retreat was held at my parent’s house out in Fenton. Of course everyone was starving by the time we got there so the first thing on the agenda was to eat! Each sister brought a different food item to share. We roasted hotdogs over a fire and had an assortment of sides and appetizers. The rest of the night was filled with our tradition of TWIG around the fire. Basically every member has the opportunity to express how they feel to their sisters in the chapter; in Katy’s words “a love fest”. Each member gives a “twig” to that sister and puts it in the fire. Twig was a great way to end the night with everyone happy and full of love! Overall chapter retreat was a successful and I feel so much closer to all of my sisters!

March Think Pink Week

April 23, 2010

March 15th-18th was our Mini Think Pink week. Monday through Wednesday were similar days, where we sold Car Bash t-shirts and hits on the car, had signups for the Car Bash, held our Best Chest Contest and handed out Breast Cancer ribbons and information. The real fun came on Thursday the 18th.  On March 18, 2010, we held our first annual Car Bash. We found a company, Gary’s Tires of Owkaville, Ill., to donate a car for the event. The company which my dad works for, United Rentals, let us store the car at their shop and let us use the shop to prep and paint the car. After making the car meet safety specifications (removal of liquids, glass, etc) my family and I painted the car pink and decorated it with ribbons, sponsor stickers and of course the ZTA letters accompanied with a five pointed crown.  This event was a great success for being its very first showing. Students and faculty alike bought a certain amount of hits so they could take out some midterm stress on the old junked car. The whole day through, a crowd surrounded the car as people bashed away at it with rubber and plastic mallets. After each person hit the car, they signed it with permanent markers so that at the end we could see all of our supporters. All of the students enjoyed this event and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to host such an event.  In total we raised a little over $1300 from this week.

March Letter from the President

April 23, 2010

Happy April, everybody!

I’m writing this from the beautiful state of Arizona! J Spring break is an awesome way to end our busy month of March.  From our “Fire & Ice” themed formal to our extremely successful Mini Think Pink Week to our very exciting Big Sis Week, March was yet another fabulous month for Theta Kappa!

With a ton of more money raised, our sisterhood even stronger, and a semester winding down, we are looking forward to a jam packed month of April.  We will be attending our Regional Convention, Zeta Day, on April 10th, participating in Relay for Life at school on the 23rd, as well as initiating our Spring Pledge Class this month!!  We are so excited for what lies ahead of us!

May your month be filled with sunshine (fingers crossed for no April showers), warm weather, and happiness!  As always - thank you for your continued support of our chapter!
Zeta Love and Mine,
